After leading 11-0 two innings into the game, Wyomissing had to play an extra inning to advance in the District 3 Class 3A baseball tournament with a 13-12 win over Kutztown in eight innings on Monday.
Kutztown, the fifth seed, rallied to tie the game at 12 and send it into extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, Zander Westwood tripled for the Spartans and scored on Dan Noey’s walk-off single.
The Spartans (15-7) play at top-seeded Bermudian Springs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
For the Spartans, Westwood homered, had the eighth-inning triple and drove in 3 runs, and Teddy White drove in three. Each player had two hits and scored two runs, with White getting a double.
Parker LaFerriere and Birkley Ziegler each had 2 RBIs for the Spartans.
Wyomissing used five pitchers in the game, with Chase Bailey pitching the last 2 2/3 innings to get the win, allowing 3 hits and one earned run.
For the Cougars (13-9), Ashton Dunn drove in 3 runs, and Chris Bergstrom and Elliot Knutsen each had 2 RBIs.
Fleetwood 3, James Buchanan 2
Ashton Hartkopf hit two home runs, knocking in all three of Fleetwood’s runs, as the Tigers defeated James Buchanan 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the District 3 Class 4A baseball tournament on Monday.
The fourth-seeded Tigers (14-6) play at top-seeded East Pennsboro (20-0) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals.
For Fleetwood, winning pitcher Nick Noll went the distance, striking out 6 and giving up 6 hits and one earned run, and Brayden Sobjak had 2 hits, including a double. Tommy Cox also doubled.
The other semifinal game in 4A on Thursday has sixth-seeded Boiling Springs hosting seventh-seeded West Perry.
