CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Cincinnati third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has been named the National League recipient of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award at third base, Major League Baseball announced.
It marks Hayes’ second career Gold Glove, with his first coming in 2023 while playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Spencer Steer was also a finalist among National League first basemen but did not win.
Hayes joins Scott Rolen, who earned the honor in 2010, as the only Reds third basemen to win a Gold Glove since the award’s inception in 1958. He becomes the 22nd Reds player overall to receive the distinction and the first since catcher Tucker Barnhart in 2020.
Since being acquired from the Pirates on July 29, Hayes has been a standout defensively. He played all 152 games this season at third base, committing just five errors in 396 total chances across 1,283 innings — the fewest by any National League third baseman with at least 1,250 innings in a season since Milwaukee’s Don Money in 1974.
For the third time in four years, Hayes led all Major League third basemen in both defensive runs saved (19) and outs above average (21). His 19 defensive runs saved tied for third among all position players this season, while his 21 outs above average ranked fourth.
Since his Major League debut in 2020, Hayes leads all players at any position with 95 defensive runs saved and 79 outs above average.
