DETROIT. (WILX) – ESPN announced the Gold Glove Award winners on Sunday night, and Detroit Tigers’ catcher Dillon Dingler captured his first career Gold Glove.
Dingler got the opportunity to step up early in the season with Jake Rogers and earned himself an everyday role with the opportunity. Dingler finished the season with zero passed balls, which was tied for the least this year.
The former Ohio State standout caught 26 guys stealing and had a 31.7 caught-stealing percent, which was first in the MLB.
Dingler becomes the first Tigers’ player to win a Gold Glove since Ian Kinsler did it in 2016. He also became the first Detroit catcher to win the award since 2007, when Pudge Rodriguez captured the honors.
