The Texas Rangers are investigating four Denton police officers after a man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Denton early Sunday morning, according to a news release from police.
At about 3:55 a.m., Denton Public Safety Communications received a call about a man shooting at unoccupied vehicles in the 1300 block of Oxford Lane, the release said.
Police said as officers arrived on the scene, the man allegedly fired his weapon, and a perimeter was established.
Officers tried to communicate with the man, but he failed to comply with their commands and fired toward them, the release said. The officers then returned fire, striking the man.

Authorities said they administered first aid, and the man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police did not release the identity of the man and said it would be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office after the family is notified.
The release said no officers or residents were injured during this incident. The four officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is being conducted.
