In 2024 the Cincinnati Reds gave an aggressive assignment to Alfredo Duno, sending him to Single-A Daytona despite only playing in 45 games in the Dominican Summer League and having never caught a game that counted in the standings as he dealt with some minor injuries that kept him from taking the field in 2023 as he served as the team’s designated hitter. Duno hit well early on with the Tortugas in 2024 but he only played in 32 games before a rib injury would cost him the final four months of the season. In his return to Daytona in 2025 he would play so well that he was named the Florida State League’s Most Valuable Player. His performance is also getting him the RedsMinorLeagues.com Minor League Hitter of the Year award for 2025.

April wasn’t the best month of the season for Alfredo Duno. While he got out to a hot start in the first four games, things slowed down a bit as the month went on. He would wind up hitting just .227 in 21 games during April, though it did come with a .341 on-base percentage and a .453 slugging percentage thanks to 10 extra-base hits. The struggle to find hits continued into the first five games of May, but from May 8th through July 31st he turned things up a notch and hit .294/.442/.466 in 58 games while walking nearly as often as he struck out.

August began with an 0-5 game in St. Lucie, but from that point forward the 19-year-old Venezuelan catcher went off. From the start of August through the end of the season he would play in 29 games and hit .355/.500/.763 with eight doubles, 10 home runs, 30 runs batted in, 28 walks, and just 14 strikeouts.

That final stretch helped Alfredo Duno finish the year with a .287 batting average, a .430 on-base percentage, and a .518 slugging percentage. The latter two were the best in the league, while his batting average was second best in the league. He would also lead the league in runs scored, doubles, home runs, RBI, and walks.

Here’s where Duno ranked within the Reds farm system among players with at least 300 plate appearances:
