In the 67-year history of the Gold Glove award, only five pairs of pitchers and catchers had won Gold Gloves while playing for the same team. Logan Webb and Patrick Bailey just made it six.

Webb won his first Gold Glove and Bailey won his second straight for the 2025 season. Webb had seven defensive runs saved, which was the best total among National League pitchers this season. For the season, Webb allowed only nine stolen bases despite throwing the most innings and facing the most batters of any pitcher in baseball.

Some of that came from Webb’s renewed approach to controlling the running game after opponents stole 21 bases on him in the 2024 season, including four in a single game against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 23. Some of that came from having baseball’s best defensive catcher behind the plate for him in most of his starts.

Bailey led all catchers with 19 defensive runs saved due to his pitch framing, and a fielding run value of 31, which was the best total in all of baseball by a big margin — Alejandro Kirk of the Boston Red Sox also had 22. He was third in baseball in runners caught stealing with 27, tied with Bo Naylor of the Cleveland Indians, and gave up on 61 stolen bases, far less than the catchers with more runners caught. The only qualifying catcher who caught base thieves more frequently than Bailey’s 30.7% was Dillon Dingler of the Detroit Tigers (31.7%), who won the Gold Glove in the American League.

The last pitcher-catcher teammates to win the Gold Glove were Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina of the Cardinals, who did it in both 2013 and 2009. Before that, Kenny Rogers and Ivan Rodriguez both won for the 2006 Detroit Tigers, six years after they pulled off the same feat as teammates on the Texas Rangers. Here’s the list:

Reuschel and his catcher also won Gold Gloves in 1987, this time Pirates backstop Mike Lavalliere, who came over when the Cardinals traded for Peña. But Reuschel’s last eight starts with the Giants after a late-August trade brought him to San Francisco.

That means that, not only is Bailey the first Giants catcher to win two Gold Gloves, Webb is the first Giants pitcher to win a Gold Glove for a full season of work with the team. Legally, 72% of Reuschel’s Gold Glove should belong to the Pirates, but such is the fate of that franchise

Bailey was also the Fielding Bible’s Defensive Player of the Year for the first time, though the award has only existed since 2023. The previous winners were third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes in 2023 and Daulton Varsho last season.
