Witt Jr., Garcia take home Gold Glove honors

  • November 4, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Two of the three Kansas City Royals who were nominated for a Gold Glove took home the honor on Sunday night.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and third baseman Maikel Garcia each were named winners on Sunday, following excellent defensive seasons on the infield.

Witt Jr. went back-to-back, beating out Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers and Taylor Walls of the Tampa Bay Rays to win his second career Gold Glove at shortstop.

Garcia became a Gold Glover for the first time in his career, earning the honor as a third baseman. He was the best third baseman in baseball in defensive runs saved in 2025, and was seventh in MLB in outs above average regardless of position.

According to MLB Stats, the Royals infielders — who were both All-Stars in 2025 thanks to their stellar hitting as well — are the first pair of shortstop and third base teammates to win Gold Gloves in the same season since J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado did so for the Baltimore Orioles in 2013.

Royals center fielder Kyle Isbel was a finalist at his position, but did not wind up taking the honor. Instead, it went to Boston Red Sox center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela.

Both Witt Jr. and Garcia are now eligible for the Platinum Glove Award, which goes to the best defender in all of MLB. Voting for that takes place here.
