Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Schneider was named one of the three American League Manager of the finalists Monday evening.
The winner will be announced on Nov. 11. The award is for the regular season only and voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
Schneider gets the nomination alongside Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians and Dan Wilson of the Seattle Mariners. Schneider and Wilson met in the American League Championship Series, with the Blue Jays defeating the Mariners in seven games.
Schneider led the Blue Jays to an AL-best 94-68 record during the regular season. It was their most wins in a season since 1993 and the fifth most in franchise history.
Vogt led the Guardians to an 88-74 record and a Central Division title. They set the MLB record for the largest comeback by a team to win a division, trailing the Detroit Tigers by 15.5 games on July 23. However, Cleveland lost to the Tigers in the Wild Card round.
In his first full season as skipper, Wilson guided the Mariners to a 90-72 finish for their first division title since their record-setting season from 2001.
