Gabe Kapler is the new general manager of the Miami Marlins.

The team announced a trio of promotions on Monday. Along with Kapler’s new role, Frankie Piliere was named vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives and Vinesh Kanthan was promoted to senior director of baseball operations.

“These three leaders have each made a meaningful impact since joining our team, exemplifying the values that define our culture: driving innovation across every area of the team, leading with a forward-thinking mindset and elevating those around them as great teammates,” Marlins president Peter Bendix said in a statement. “Their advancement is a testament to the caliber of talent and person within our organization and our continued commitment to building a culture of collaboration and excellence.”

A 50-year-old native of Los Angeles, Kapler was hired as an assistant GM in January of 2024. Prior to joining the Marlins, he spent two seasons as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies (2018-2019) and four as the skipper of the San Francisco Giants (2020-2023). He won National League Manager of the Year in 2021.

“It is an exciting time to be part of the Marlins’ organization, and I am ready to continue the great work we are doing here, alongside Peter and our entire baseball operations staff,” Kapler said in a statement. “The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture and an incredible team working together toward a shared goal. I’m proud to help continue that progress and contribute to what’s ahead.”

As a player, Kapler appeared in 1,104 games over 12 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays from 1998 to 2010. He won a World Series with the Red Sox in 2004.

Kapler becomes the sixth general manager in franchise history.
