There’s no crying in baseball — unless you love the Toronto Blue Jays. After a painful Game 7 World Series loss on Saturday night, many fans of the team are experiencing a mishmash of feelings: Hurt, disbelief, heartbreak, despair. But we’re also hopeful for what’s to come, and filled with gratitude for how the Jays united all of Canada and brought us one of the most exciting, joy-filled playoff runs since 1993.

And, of course, we’re not the only ones feeling it all. After the game, a visibly emotional Ernie Clement said he had been “crying for probably an hour,” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. stood alone in the dugout and closer Jeff Hoffman’s voice shook as he blamed himself for the loss. But the team also praised each other, their magical season and “the power of friendship.“

“I never thought I could love baseball this much,” pitcher Max Scherzer told reporters after the game. “My love for the game was so strong because of their love for the game.”

It was truly a mesmerizing season — and no one knows that better than the Blue Jays players’ wives and girlfriends. Many of them took to social media over the weekend to open up about the bittersweet season and their feelings about the players, Canada and fans. Charlise Springer (George Springer’s wife)

I’m so proud of my husband, this team and every single family that poured their hearts into this season.

The highs, the late nights, the travel, the memories. This group showed nothing but heart, humility and resilience from day one and it was an honour to watch them chase this dream together. Baseball doesn’t promise fairytale endings, but it gives you people and moments that last a lifetime.

Feeling nothing but gratitude for the chance to represent Canada’s team and be part of something so special. Until next season.

Nathalie Guerrero (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s wife)

Just thank you my God, thank you for allowing us to get here, for all the good and bad that happened. We finish this season in health, and with new teachings. Proud of you my love, how you enjoy yourself and give yourself in body and soul in everything you do. To me, you will always be the best. Until next year with more faith. Grateful and in accordance with God’s will. Proud of my team.

Taylor Gausman (Kevin Gausman’s wife)

I can really only be proud. Proud of my husband, proud to be a part of the Blue Jays, proud of all the guys and the amazing women behind them. Proud of our kids for being troopers on this month long rollercoaster of late nights and coast to coast flights.

If you actually watched these guys play this season, you know they didn’t get here with luck — they got here with grit, passion, humility and so much hard work and preparation. They didn’t go down without a fight and I personally think they will always be the better team on and off the field. They wanted this more than anyone and you could see it in the way they played the games, all 180.”

Thank you to everyone who has supported us from the beginning, we are so grateful to have the opportunity to even be here and represent Canadas team. It has been a beyond fun ride and although I’m sad it didn’t turn out the way we wanted, it still doesn’t take away how proud I am of what this team has accomplished this year. I can’t wait to be back next year — LFG Blue Jays.

Erica Scherzer (Max Scherzer’s wife)

When Max signed with Toronto I had a feeling we would enjoy the experience. Never could I have imagined just how special this season would turn out to be. Out of 18 seasons in MLB none has had an impact on our lives quite like this one.

Toronto, our family fell in love with your beauty, culture and people. Playing for an entire country is truly special.

Normally at the end of a season, regardless of the outcome, you’re ready to go home and recharge. Never have I seen a team full of players and their families that did not want the season to end and wished they could play for many more weeks, just to get more time together.

I feel incredibly blessed to still live this beautiful baseball life and to watch Max live out his dream. I’m devastated the season is over, proud for what this team accomplished, and grateful for the experiences and lifelong friendships that came from it.

Stefanie Brejcha (Ernie Clement’s girlfriend)

My heart and soul.

The best group of humans I have ever met in my life. Wouldn’t have wanted to play 180 games with anyone by my side. Absolutely honoured to be apart of this team and the Blue Jays family.

And of course I couldn’t be more proud of the fight Ernie has put up this season. Career highs, records broken, and every last ounce of energy he could put into the game. Never seen someone who has so much heart and passion for baseball and it has been amazing to watch you play out your life long dream.

Forever grateful for these people and this team.

Kara Bieber (Shane Bieber’s wife)

For me, this is a story of falling in love with baseball again — the team, the women, the players, the fans, the staff, all of it. I’m so thankful. I’d be lying if I said the outcome doesn’t hurt, but I can’t help but feel so proud of my husband and his teammates. What a year it’s been, from TJ surgery, to having Kav, to getting traded mid-season. God really does work in mysterious ways.

It’s almost easy for even me to forget that Shane came back from surgery just 2.5 months ago but that’s such a testament to his character, his drive, and the way he shows up no matter what.

Baseball at this level is rare – the resiliency, the unity, the quiet trust between everyone chasing the same dream. But what makes it truly special isn’t just the game, it’s the kind of men they are, and the women who stand beside them holding it down through it all.

I’ll never forget how Shane and I would be almost giddy after games, just talking about how lucky we felt to be surrounded by such incredible humans. I’d tell him how amazing the women were, and he’d smile and say the same about the guys. We felt so welcomed from the moment we got to Canada. It’s something we’ll cherish forever.

Emily Little (Brendon Little’s wife)

To say I’m proud of this team is an understatement.

This isn’t the ending we hoped for, but wow, this team deserves everything. Not just because they’re absolute workhorses and incredible players, but because they’re genuinely good people. Every single one of them.

It’s rare to find a group of guys like this, and to have an equally amazing group of women by their side is even rarer. Baseball is funny like that… you never get the same exact team twice. But something about this group was special. The kind of team you’ll look back on years from now and still feel grateful to have been a part of.

Thank you for the memories, the laughs, the grit, and the best season ever.

Maddie Varland (Louis Varland’s wife)

From the moment Louie got traded to the Blue Jays, he told me that the culture felt different. This was the craziest, most stressful yet most rewarding ride that baseball has brought us on so far. This team and the girls were one of a kind. Every person welcomed us with open arms and treated us like we were family from the start, and I’m so happy that we were able to be part of it. Thank you Blue Jays for the opportunity and I’m so excited to see what the future holds! And to Louie, we are all so proud of you!

Maggie France (Ty France’s wife)

An unexpected mid season trade landed us with the most incredible organization a few months back and I can’t help but be so grateful for our time here. The city, the organization, the friends that already feel like family, I am beyond grateful for it all. Thank you for welcoming the France Fam with open arms Toronto. We’ll hold this season close to our hearts forever.

Baseball, that one hurt. But it no where near defines our season.
