The White Sox are picking up the $20 million club option on Luis Robert for the 2026 season.
The 27-year-old center fielder hit .223 with 14 homers and 33 stolen bases while playing in 110 games. The Sox also have a club option on Robert for the 2027 season.
Robert said before last season that he expected the Sox to trade him last offseason, as he’s the last remaining trade piece the team has.
General manager Chris Getz elected to hold on to Robert at last season’s trade deadline and has remained steadfast in his belief in the center fielder. Robert is still dependable in the field with a propensity to make the occasional flashy play.
Given the lack of big contracts on the Sox’ payroll, taking a chance on Robert rehabilitating his value is the right move for the franchise.
