Former Manheim Township standout Nick Kurtz will play close to home next season. Maybe more than once.
The Philadelphia Phillies announced the game times for their home schedule Tuesday. Kurtz and the Athletics will visit Citizens Bank Park on May 5-7 with all three games starting at 6:40 p.m.
Kurtz took Major League Baseball by storm after he was promoted to the A’s in April. The first baseman batted .290 with 36 home runs and 86 RBIs in 117 games. He became the first rookie to hit four homers in a game in July.
The A’s didn’t play in Philadelphia last season. This will be Kurtz’s first appearance there. He could return two months later for a bigger occasion.
The All-Star Game and Home Run Derby will also take place at Citizens Bank Park. Kurtz might be invited if he has another productive summer.
Kurtz, who played his freshman season at Township before transferring to prep school, is the favorite to be named Rookie of the Year in the American League. The announcement will take place Monday night.
