Shane Bieber has decided to take his $16 million player option and stay with the Blue Jays.
I’m shocked. I was sure he would opt out and get more money, even if he went with a short-term contract. Apparently, he liked his Jays teammates and wants to stay with them, at least for another year, even if he costs him some money. That’s really nice to hear. From Shi Davidi’s story:
“This group is unlike any that I’ve ever been a part of. That’s a sentiment we all kind of share personally. That’s very clear. There’s a lot of love in this room.”
Right now the Jays rotation looks like Bieber, Kevin Gausman, Jose Berrios, Trey Yesavage. Francis Bowden and Eric Lauer will be around. And Ricky Tiedmann could force is way into the rotation.
I’m happy that Shane will be around next year. Looking forward to watching.
