The Kansas City Royals and catcher Salvador Perez have reached a two-year contract extension, it was announced Tuesday evening.
The deal takes him through 2027. Perez originally had a $13.5 million team option for the 2026 season.
Perez has spent his entire 14-year MLB career in Kansas City after debuting during the 2011 season.
The veteran catcher was instrumental in the Royals back-to-back World Series appearances in 2014 and 2015, earning the 2015 Series MVP when the Royals defeated the New York Mets for their first championship in 40 years.
The 35-year-old provided power from behind the plate this past season, hitting 30 home runs and driving in 100 runs in 155 games while slashing .236/.284/.446 in 155 games. He caught in 92 of those games and played first base in an additional 30.
Perez is a nine-time All-Star, a five-time Gold Glove Award winner and a five-time Silver Slugger recipient. He ranks sixth all-time in Royals franchise history in hits (1,712) and is only 14 home runs behind the legendary George Brett for the Royals’ all-time lead.
