The Kansas City Royals acquired Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks in July. He had a $5 million mutual option for next season that he has declined, entering free agency, according to MLB.com’s Anne Rogers.
He played in 43 games for the Royals last season, in what was his 12th season as a big leaguer. He has played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Colorado Rockies, Los Angeles Angels, Diamondbacks and Royals. He has spent the most time playing for the Blue Jays.
In 479 games with the Blue Jays, Grichuk had a .751 OPS and 90 home runs. He had three seasons of at least 20 home runs with the Blue Jays, with the pandemic-shortened 2020 season being the only year he did not hit 20 homers for the Blue Jays. He has lost some power since then, but can still be a solid player.

He played a total of 113 games last year. He has played in 1,360 career games and could be a solid depth piece for a team next year. He has experience playing all three outfield spots and would be a cheap addition. He will likely land another short-term deal with a new team
Ideal suitors for Grichuk will be teams that need an outfielder off the bench. He is no longer the player he once was with the Blue Jays, but he may still be able to contribute in his 13th season.
