The Braves drafted Patrick Clohisy in the 11th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Saint Louis. The speedy outfielder, who began his college career at Purdue hit .345 with a .454 on base percentage for his college career, drafted for his ability to make contact.
What were the 2025 expectations?
Last year after signing he played 26 games, 22 in Augusta and the final four in Rome. He hit .256/.330/.346 with seven doubles, nine walks, and 17 strikeouts over 88 plate appearances in Augusta before going 2-16 with three walks in Rome. He was expected to head back to Rome and hit his way to Mississippi at some point to test himself against upper level pitching.
Clohisy went back to Rome and spent 92 games there, hitting .247/.338/.330 with 16 doubles, two triples, and three homers with 45 walks to 76 strikeouts over 405 plate appearances. He finally got promoted to Double-A and hit .270/.328/.384 with four doubles, a triple, and four homers with 11 walks to 29 strikeouts in 174 plate appearances. He combined to hit .254/.335/.346 with 79 steals on the season.
Clohisy actually struck out 50 times in April and May, with just 55 over the next four months as he cut down on his strikeouts. His numbers throughout the season were pretty consistent until September, with the exception of just a .508 OPS in the month of June. The other four months he consistently put up OPS marks between .684 and and .761, before he scuffled to a .613 OPS over 13 September games.
Clohisy is in the Arizona Fall League right now and currently hitting .242/.373/.323 with 12 walks to 11 strikeouts through his first 75 plate appearances. He is expected to likely start back in Columbus and could push his way to Gwinnett if he can keep growing at the plate the way he has shown in 2025. A trip to Atlanta is a possibility for him late in 2026 if he produces enough, where he likely projects as a contact and speed oriented fourth outfielder.
