Yu Darvish won’t take to the field in 2026.
The 39-year-old San Diego Padres righty announced Tuesday that he underwent ulnar collateral ligament surgery and will be sidelined until 2027.

Darvish posted that the surgery was done last Wednesday by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, TX.
A native of Habikino, Japan, Darvish just completed his 13th big league season and fifth with the Friars. He didn’t make his first appearance until July after dealing with elbow inflammation. He finished his season at 5-5 in 15 appearances with an earned run average of 5.38 and a 1.181 WHIP over 72.0 innings of work.
A five-time All-Star, Darvish has also suited up with the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers.
For his career, he is 115-93 in 297 starts with a 3.65 ERA and 1.138 WHIP over 1,778.0 IP. Darvish has struck out 2,075 batters.
