The San Francisco Giants and President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey are making a massive power play move behind the scenes to help strengthen Tony Vitello’s first season in The Bay.

According to a report from Fox Sports: MLB on Wednesday night, the Giants are bringing former manager Bruce Bochy back into the organization as a special assistant. Bochy is a four-time World Series Champion, most recently with the Texas Rangers back in 2023, and will provide a veteran presence to Vitello behind the scenes as he embarks on his first journey in the bigs.

Bochy was the Giants’ manager from 2007 to 2019, winning three World Series titles during that time in 2010, 2012, and 2014. He finished his time in San Francisco with a 1,052-1,054 record in 2,106 games with the Giants.

“I know it’ll be a question later, I have spent some some time around this organization, either as a fan or just watching or, again, through business ways, I’m fully aware of the tradition that’s here and the excellence that’s been brought by managers like (Bruce) Bochy, Dusty Baker, the toughness from guys like (Madison) Baumgardner and (Sergio) Romo,” Vitello said during his opening press conference last week. “The loyalty, which is incredibly important, (a) word to me and my family, which is epitomized by the guy to my right (Posey).”

When Vitello was first hired as the Giants’ manager, there were questions about how he would field his staff to strengthen his transition to the bigs. It still remains to be seen just what kind of role Bochy has behind the scenes, but a presence like his will help be a guiding force for the front office and the staff.

We’ll find out more about Vitello’s first staff in the coming months, but this is definitely a strong play from Posey and the Giants’ front office to bolster things behind the scenes.
