Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler credits teammate for 2025 AL Gold Glove
Detroit Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler spoke with reporters Nov. 3, 2025, about winning an American League Gold Glove Award for the 2025 season.
The Detroit Tigers have finalized several coaching changes.
Six coaches were involved.
The three newcomers to manager A.J. Hinch‘s coaching staff in the 2026 season: Cody Asche as an assistant hitting coach, Anthony Sanders as the first-base coach and Billy Boyer as the quality coach. Those three replaced hitting coach Keith Beauregard, first-base coach Anthony Iapoce and coach Gary Jones.
Of the three hires, the additions of Asche and Sanders were previously reported.
A new name – Billy Boyer – appeared Wednesday, Nov. 5, when the Tigers announced coaching staff and front office moves, with the Tigers promoting Boyer to MLB quality coach.
Boyer, 41, has worked in the Tigers’ organization in three of the past four seasons, spending his first three seasons in the minor leagues as an infield coordinator in 2022 and a field coordinator and infield coordinator from 2024-25.
Between those two stints, Boyer – one of the most respected defensive minds in baseball – worked as an assistant coach at the University of Washington during the 2023 season.
Here is the updated 2026 coaching staff:
Hinch, Lombard, Fetter and Nieves are entering their sixth seasons, while Lund and Brdar are entering their fourth.
As for Boyer, he previously worked as an assistant coach at Seattle University in 2018, which is the same year that left-hander Tarik Skubal completed his final college season before the Tigers drafted him in the ninth round.
He then served as the Minnesota Twins’ infield and baserunning coordinator in the minor leagues from 2019-20.
Before coaching, Boyer – a switch-hitting second baseman – played three seasons in the minor leagues after the Los Angeles Angels selected him in the 19th round of the 2003 MLB draft from Enumclaw High School in Washington. He appeared in 187 games from 2003-05, including seven games at the Triple-A level.
He also played 19 games in 2006 for the Joliet Jackhammers in the independent Northern League.
