For a second straight day, the Seattle Mariners have added a potential bullpen option to their 40-man roster.
The Mariners have claimed right-hander Ryan Loutos off waivers from the Washington Nationals, the team announced Thursday. It comes a day after Seattle picked up righty Cole Wilcox for cash in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.

A product of Washington University in St. Louis, Loutos checks in at 6 foot 5 and 240 pounds, and will turn 27 before the 2026 season. A native of Elk Grove Village, Ill., Loutos attended Barrington High School, the alma mater of Mariners manager Dan Wilson.
Loutos initially signed out of college with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021 after going undrafted. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals signed him not just as a pitching option but as a programmer to help build an app that would allow the organization’s minor leaguers to easily access pitching data.
Loutos spoke to MLB.com’s John Denton in 2024 about his unique dual role with the Cardinals.
“I’ve definitely been that (tech) guy for all of my minor league teammates for the most part,” Loutos said. “The players will come to me first because I’m their friend and they’re comfortable around me. I helped with some of (the pitching app), but all the people in the front office are so smart and so good at what they do. I learned so much from them.”
Loutos made his MLB debut with the Cardinals in 2024, making three scoreless appearances out of the bullpen that season.
He was purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers in May and made two appearances for the World Series champs, then landed with the Nationals on a waiver claim in June.
In 2025, Loutos pitched 12 innings over 12 games, allowing 17 earned runs on 20 hits, eight walks and four home runs with eight strikeouts. He had a 12.75 ERA and 2.33 WHIP.
Per Statcast, Loutos has a four-seam fastball that averages 95.4 mph, plus a slider, changeup, sweeper and sinker. He used the fastball 46.3% of the time in his 2025 outings, followed by the slider at 22.5%.
The Mariners’ 40-man roster is at 38 with the addition of Loutos.
