The Mets have tendered a qualifying offer to Edwin Díaz, a move that was very much expected once Díaz decided to opt out of the remainder of his contract and hit free agency. The 31-year-old reliever is coming off a fantastic season that saw him finish with a 1.63 ERA in 66.1 innings of work and will certainly decline it, but the QO is a one-year contract that would pay $22.025 million for any player who chooses to accept it.

Following the 2022 season, the Mets signed Díaz to a five-year, $102 million contract that included an opt-out after the third year. Díaz missed the 2023 season after his freak knee injury during a celebration at the World Baseball Classic and returned in decent form in 2024 with a 3.52 ERA in 53.2 innings of work.

Despite a disastrous first season with the Mets in 2019, Díaz has been nothing short of spectacular over the course of the seven years he’s spent with the team. In total, he has a 2.93 ERA and a 2.56 FIP in 328.1 innings with the Mets.
