The Brewers drafted righthander Tyson Hardin out of Mississippi State in the 12th round in 2024. A year later he was the organization’s minor league pitcher of the year.

“As simple as it sounds, he’s just a really good pitcher,” Brewers senior coordinator of minor league pitching Nick Childs said.

“Tyson’s very talented. Not a ton of experience pitching, and so I think he’s still kind of just scratching the surface a little bit with being a converted infielder to pitching in junior college and then pitching at Mississippi State.”

The 23-year-old Tampa native made his first full season a productive one. Hardin recorded a 2.73 ERA and 1.18 WHIP while striking out 96 in 96 innings in 21 starts split between High-A Wisconsin and Double-A Biloxi.

His showing in 10 starts with the Shuckers after his mid-June promotion—3.29 ERA, 34 strikeouts in 38.1 innings—was impressive enough that he was lined up to pitch the decisive Game 3 of the Southern League division series had Montgomery not closed it out in two games.

Hardin uses a five-pitch mix of a four-seam fastball, a two-seamer, a cutter, a sweeper and a changeup. He sits 92-95 mph with the ability to occasionally crank it up a notch. “Efficient” is how Childs described Hardin when he’s at his best—he generates ground balls early in counts.

He went as deep as seven innings twice with Wisconsin and had a pair of six-inning starts for Biloxi before being shut down for roughly six weeks due to fatigue.

He returned on Aug. 22 and set the stage for what should be an even bigger 2026.

“There’s some natural athleticism and some really nice tools there,” Childs said. “He’s smart and hard-working and did a good job of just taking it—as cliché as it is—just one game at a time . . .

“He didn’t go through very many highs and lows, like we see for some of the guys—especially the first-year guys. The consistency stood out to me.”

MICROBREWS

— Biloxi center fielder Luis Lara was named a minor league Gold Glove winner for 2025. Past Brewers Gold Glove winners include outfielder Jackson Chourio in 2022, catcher Jeferson Quero in 2023 and shortstop Cooper Pratt in 2024.

— The Brewers added 24-year-old righthander Coleman Crow to the 40-man roster, preventing him from becoming a minor league free agent. Crow made 12 starts in 2025, mostly for Double-A Biloxi with a pair at Triple-A Nashville before being shut down in late August with a flexor strain. He finished with a 3.24 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 64 strikeouts in 50 innings.
