MANKATO — The Minnesota State baseball team started Sunday with a 7-2 win over Arkansas Monticello, but then fell to Pittsburg State in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II Central Regional at ISG Field.
In the win, Mitch Gutknecht allowed just two earned runs in a complete game. Aidan Byrne, Ike Mezzenga and Ben Palmer each homered for MSU.
In the loss, Pittsburg State took the lead with a seven-run second inning and never gave it back. Mezzenga had two hits and three RBIs for the Mavericks, while Logan Miller added two hits and two RBIs.
MSU finishes the season at 51-8.
