AUSTIN, Texas — Starting today, flights at 40 major airports are being cut due to air traffic controller shortages brought on by the longest government shutdown. While four Texas airports are on the list, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is not one of them. However, airport officials say changes to flight schedules are expected, and the airport recommends travelers to stay in contact with their airline and arrive at the airport in advance.

For travelers, this could mean fewer flights, longer wait times and cancellations right before the holidays. For travelers who have their flights canceled, the major airlines, like Delta and Southwest, are allowing customers to change their flights or request a refund without penalty.
