CLEVELAND, Ohio — Guardians third baseman José Ramírez came out on top in a competitive field to win the sixth Silver Slugger award in his career on Friday night.
Ramírez won the award, symbolic of the top hitting third baseman in the American League, over Boston’s Alex Bregman and Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero.
The switch-hitting Ramírez has now won the Silver Slugger in 2017, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024 and 2025. Ramírez received a $50,000 bonus for winning the award.
This season Ramírez hit .283 (168 for 593) with 34 doubles, 30 homers and 85 RBI. For the second straight season, he went 30-40 (30 homers and 40 or more stolen bases). He is the only player in franchise history with three 30-30 seasons.
The AL Silver Slugger competition at third base was strong.
Caminero, the one-time Cleveland farmhand who was spirited away by the Rays, hit .311 (159 for 607) with 28 doubles, 45 homers and 110 RBI. He struck out 125 times, while drawing 41 walks.
Bregman, in his first year in Boston, hit .273 (118 for 433) with 28 doubles, 18 homers and 62 RBI.
Ramírez, who will finish no lower than third in next week’s AL MVP voting, played in 158 games for the Guardians. Caminero played in 154 and Bregman 114.
The AL and NL Silver Slugger awards are voted on by MLB managers and coaches. Voters are not allowed to vote for players on their own teams.
