UFC flyweight sensation, Maycee Barber, threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Colorado Rockies on Monday night, ahead of their crushing loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Coors Field in Denver. Credit to “The Future,” who managed to hurl a perfect strike (unlike this diamond dud), though most baseball fans had no idea who Barber was or why she was taking the mound.
“Am I suppose to know who that is? Or has Rockies Social Media just given up,” one fan posted in the comment section, while another fan suggested, “Nobody knows who this is but everyone is ready for her to start.”
Have a look:
Just under this 904 mph record.
To be fair, the first pitch shtick is meant to be lighthearted and fun and has featured such illustrious names as Tillman the Dog, Gary Dell’Abate (Baba Booey), and Stephen A. Smith, among others. Former UFC champion, Conor McGregor, had his shot at home plate back in 2017 and it was about as successful as his rendition of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” for the Chicago Cubs in late 2021.
And yet somehow still not the worst first pitch in UFC history.
The 27 year-old Barber (14-2) will battle No. 4-ranked Erin Blanchfield atop the UFC Vegas 107 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on May 31 at the promotion’s APEX facility in Las Vegas. For much more on that upcoming fight card click here.
