Diamondbacks at Dodgers, 7:10 p.m., Cox, Ch. 34
Diamondbacks RHP Ryne Nelson (1-1, 5.13) vs. Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (5-3, 2.12).
At Dodger Stadium: Nelson is now plugged into the starting rotation with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on the injured list. He’s made one start this season, on May 5 against the New York Mets, but has been mainly used as a long reliever. Not having pitched since May 14, when he threw three innings at San Francisco, Nelson should be fully stretched out and on regular rest for a starting pitcher. But he could be on a pitch count in this one. The last time he faced the Dodgers, on May 10, Nelson pitched two scoreless and hitless innings and earned a save. Nelson is 2-0 with a 1.50 earned run average in his career against the Dodgers, over five appearances. … Yamamoto has been the Dodgers’ most effective and consistent starting pitcher this season, in no small part because he’s stayed healthy (unlike three other rotation mates) and has been deployed on at least five days’ rest. He gave up five runs in five innings to the Diamondbacks on May 8 at Chase Field and took the loss. He is 2-1 in his career against Arizona.
