Royals agree to terms on new contract with Salvador Perez

  • November 9, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – El Capitán is staying in Kansas City.

Royals star Salvador Perez and the organization agreed to terms on a new contract that keeps him in Kansas City through the 2027 season.

“Salvy is a Royals legend and one of the most important players this franchise has ever had,” said Executive Vice President/General Manager J.J. Picollo. “We had the option for next year, but everyone knew we wanted to make sure his legacy with us continued longer than that. We appreciate Salvy’s commitment to the Royals, and we’re just as excited as our fans.”

As Picollo mentioned, Perez had an option to exercise ahead of the 2026 season, but he and the club came to terms on a new deal that added an additional season of commitment to Kansas City.

The 35-year-old catcher who debuted in 2011 and is a nine-time All-Star just completed a 30-home run, 100-RBI season. The 2025 season was just the third time Perez had reached 100 RBI in a season and he did it in back-to-back years.

His 30 home runs in 2025 were the second-most in a season in his career. Perez reached the 300 home run and 1,000 RBI marks in September, becoming one of eight primary catchers in MLB history to reach 300 home runs and one of 15 catchers with 1,000 RBI.

The former World Series MVP has been the team’s captain for the past three seasons and remains a consistent organization pillar along with star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

The deal was met with approval by Witt Jr.

“Let’s go!!” Witt Jr. tweeted Tuesday night.
