
After spending three years in the front office at San Diego, Craig Stammen will take over as manager.

VERSAILLES — Versailles graduate and former MLB pitcher Craig Stammen was named the next San Diego Padres manager on Nov. 6. The 41-year old was working in the Padres front office after retirement. He worked as a special assistant to Padres GM A.J. Preller.
Stammen received Academic All-Ohio honors in 2002. He then went on to play three seasons at the University of Dayton from 2003-06. He was drafted in the 12th round by the Washington Nationals in the 2005 MLB Draft.
Stammen spent seven season with the Washington Nationals, making his debut on May 21, 2009 . He then signed with the Cleveland Indians for a season in 2016. Stammen signed with the Padres a month later and spent his last six seasons with them from 2017-22.
Stammen is taking over for Mike Shildt, who retired after last season.
