MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -On this day- November 9, 1982- Milwaukee Brewers legend Robin Yount won his first MVP award.
The vote was almost unanimous, with Yount getting 27 out of a possible 28 votes.
His 1982 season was one of the best ever by a shortstop, leading the MLB in hits with 210 and total bases with 367.
He was also second in the American league in batting average and runs scored.
Yount’s success that year didn’t stop there. He also won a gold glove award and led the brewers to their first and only world series appearance.
He was named MVP again in 1989 while playing in the outfield.
He is one of just four players in MLB history to win the award at two different positions.
After he won in 1989, another brewers player wouldn’t win the award again until Ryan Braun in 2011.
Yount retired after the 19-93 season, following a 20-year career with the Brewers.
He was elected to the baseball hall of fame in 1999.
