The sale of a city-owned little league baseball complex is on the table Monday at the Sioux City city council meeting.

  • November 9, 2025

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Monday, the Sioux City ctiy council will discuss the potential sale of the Headid Little League ball field complex to Knife River Midwest, LLC.

Knife River would purchase the complex for $700,000, and as a part of the agreement, the company would also contribute $500,000 cash or $750,000 to go toward the construction of new replacement ball fields.

According to city documents, a key component of the expansion is the construction of a new rail spur and rail yard that will allow them to bring aggregate in bulk to the site.

City staff has been meeting with the company for over a year regarding an extensive rebuild and expansion of their Sioux City facility to allow for more space for aggregate and other material storage. Knife River Midwest, LLC is looking to lease or purchase several plots of city-owned land, including the purchase of the existing Headid Little League ball field complex.

City documents say that the project would significantly increase Knife River’s storage capacity and is anticipated to the reduce costs for road projects throughout the region through the use of rail for transporting project inputs.

As for the ball fields, Headid would remain in operation at its current location through the end of the 2027 baseball season.

Approval by the council, Monday would kick off a 30-day timer where other developers can also place bids on the land. A public hearing is scheduled for December 15th to review all of the submitted proposals.
