My energy drink is almost empty. That means it’s time to quit the procrastination stage of my writing and get to the meat of the story with the Weekend Roundup.

It was another weekend of football, football, and you guessed it, more football. However, baseball wanted to let you know they still wanted to make headlines, even if it’s for the wrong reasons.

Enough with all this blabber, I’m feeling the caffeine. I can’t waste this. Let’s jump into the Weekend Roundup.

Give Him The Trophy

The NFL is absolutely scared to death to give the MVP award to someone other than a quarterback. Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had a performance on Sunday that establishes his presence in the MVP race.

244 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons just show how dominant Taylor has been this season.

Give him the award, cowards!

Not So Fast

I’m team Taylor, but I can’t count out the guy who could actually win the award because he plays quarterback. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford looks like the best in the business at the moment.

The last of his kind, Stafford has shown there is plenty left in the tank. Or could this be the clone that was created over the summer? I love a good conspiracy theory.

As a lifelong Detroit Lions fan, I love this for Stafford. #9 always going to be my dawg!

Trouble In Cleveland

A sports betting scandal has found its way to MLB. Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted for rigging bets on pitches during games.

Ortiz was allegedly paid $5,000 for throwing an intentional ball June 15 and Clase paid $5,000 for facilitating it, then did it again two weeks later for $7,000 apiece. pic.twitter.com/p8bS53pSvM

Wish I could tell people I was throwing bad pitches on purpose when I was in Little League. Ohio is becoming the capital of sports betting in baseball. Not the best look, in my opinion.

Trump In The Booth

Everybody’s favorite topic, politics in sports, went down on Sunday. President Donald Trump jumped into the booth during the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions game on Sunday.

Of course, everyone had an opinion on the matter. However, the worst part about all of it was Jonathan Vilma desperately trying to get Trump to say 6-7 on air.

Can we get more politics in sports? I’d really enjoy it. (Sarcasm)

Speaking Of 6-7

If you need a palate cleanser after all that politics talk, let’s take you to the greatest moment in sports over the weekend.

On Friday, the University of Evansville scored 67 points in their game against Calumet. Normally, that wouldn’t make headlines. However, the kids in attendance could not contain their excitement seeing 6-7 on the board.

A glorious moment.

Well, that’s the high notes for the Weekend Roundup. I’ve thrown away my energy drink can, but I can’t help but shake the thought of cracking another one open before strength.

Lord, beer me strength.

May you have a better, more energized start to your week than I am.
