The Houston Astros were expected to be a postseason team this year, but they fell off a cliff late in the season and watched the Seattle Mariners capture the division.

Now, Houston is headed for the offseason, and there are some big decisions on their plate, including the free agency sweepstakes of their ace, Framber Valdez. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently projected Valdez would sign a massive $190 million deal in free agency.

USA Today’s Gabe Lacques recently predicted Valdez would ditch Houston in free agency in favor of a contract with the San Francisco Giants.

Houston Astros pitcher Framber Valdez

The Astros could make a run at Valdez, but the Giants have the money to steal him away. The Giants also have a huge hole at starting pitcher that was created after they traded a few arms to the Boston Red Sox for Rafael Devers.

San Francisco could be as aggressive as any team in baseball this year because it’s left chasing the loaded Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

Signing Valdez would be a huge move for the Giants to make, and it’s very realistic. They are likely going to go after most of the top pitchers on the market, but Valdez could fit their team better than the rest.
