The San Diego Padres of Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Lan-Hong Su.

Born in 2007, Su graduated from the Kaohsiung Municipal Sanmin Senior High School and helped Chinese Taipei to a bronze medal in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2025 presented by RAXUS in Okinawa, Japan, in September.

The Padres offered Su a reported US$750,000 signing bonus.

“We’re excited to add Su to the organisation and look forward to helping him achieve his dream of becoming a Major League pitcher,” Padres scouting director Chris Kemp told the MLB website. “Scouting him over the years has been a team effort, but recent looks from Po-Hsuan Keng, Trevor Schumm and Dave Post cemented our beliefs on Su as both a pitcher and teammate.”

MLB.com added: “The signing comes from the Padres’ international bonus pool, with Su set to begin his climb through the team’s system next year. It marks the first time the Padres have signed a Taiwanese player since they signed Wen-Hua Sung in 2016.”

Su was Chinese Taipei’s closer at the XXXI WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup. He pitched in five games, including the bronze-medal game against Korea, for a combined 7.1 innings, posting a 2-0 record. He allowed only two earned runs on five hits, a 1.91 earned run average (ERA), and three walks, while striking out 14.
