A Poplar Bluff Mule will wear Royal Blue next season following his acquisition from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Kansas City Royals announced Monday, Nov. 10 that they had picked up outfielder Kameron Misner from the Rays in exchange for either a player to be named or cash considerations. The trade comes as Misner was designated for assignment last week by Tampa.

Misner had been drafted by the Royals out of Poplar Bluff High School in the 33rd round of the 2016 MLB Draft, but he opted to pursue his collegiate career at Mizzou. Misner’s three seasons at Mizzou would see him steal 50 bases, fifth all-time for the Tigers, while recording 32 runs batted in off 59 hits. He would be drafted in the first round (35th overall selection) in 2019 by Florida, but traded two years later to Tampa. Last season he made his first Opening Day roster, hitting his first career home run that was a walk-off winner for the Rays, becoming the first player to achieve the feat in the majors. In 79 career games, Misner has a slash line of .203/.260/.325, with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs, and eight stolen bases.

Also Monday, the Royals introduced Cullen Maxey as their new president of business operations. Maxey joins the Royals after two years with the Arizona Diamondbacks, including 16 years as executive vice president of business operations and chief revenue officer. Brooks Sherman will become president of real estate and development, as the two will work on selecting the site of the Royals’ new stadium with their lease at Kauffman Stadium ending in 2030.
