MLB’s annual GM meetings are underway this week in Las Vegas. While teams are unlikely to make any major moves right away, the meetings are a good opportunity for them to feel each other out, discuss their needs and start engaging in potential trade discussions.
According to a report on Tuesday from MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Kansas City Royals are “evaluating the trade market for outfielders” during this week’s meetings. Morosi also named the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels as possible trading partners for the Royals.
Given their current logjam of outfielders, the Red Sox could be open to trading one this winter. Meanwhile, Kansas City has some quality starting pitching that could be attractive for Boston.

For example, the Royals could be willing to part with Kris Bubic, who has one year remaining before free agency. Bubic has a 2.58 ERA over the last two seasons and was an All-Star in 2025, going 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA, a 2.89 FIP and a 1.18 WHIP in 20 starts last season.

Bubic’s campaign ended early due to a rotator cuff strain, but he avoided surgery and should be ready to go for 2026.
The Red Sox are seeking a No. 2 starter to pair with Garrett Crochet this offseason, and Bubic could fit the bill.
They could also target Cole Ragans, who was an All-Star in 2024 and still has three more years of team control. Both are heading into their age-28 season, so they’re both in their physical primes as well.

Boston and Kansas City seem like a good match on paper, but time will tell if they progress to serious trade talks and ultimately strike a deal this winter.
