There’s no such thing as a “sure thing” when it comes to baseball prospects, but Konnor Griffin sure looks like one.
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ No. 1 prospect is also the top prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. The ninth overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft, Griffin dominated his first Minor League season in 2025. He showcased his impressive skills and tools across three levels, batting .333/.415/.527 with 21 home runs, 94 RBI, 117 runs and 65 stolen bases.
In short, there’s nothing the 19-year-old phenom can’t do. After ascending to Double-A last season, there’s a very real chance he reaches the Major Leagues next year.
Eric Longenhagen, who covers MLB prospects for FanGraphs, shared some special praise for Griffin while discussing Pirates prospects with Jim Rosati on Tuesday’s episode of “North Shore Nine.”
“He’s basically been better in every facet of baseball than I thought he’d be from the jump,” Longenhagen said, adding that Griffin has the potential to be a “franchise-altering player” if he pans out.

That’s exactly what Pittsburgh is hoping for. The Pirates ranked last in MLB in scoring in 2025, so their offense could use a serious boost. They’re hoping Griffin can come up and anchor the lineup for years to come, similar to what Paul Skenes has done for the rotation.
Griffin has MVP-caliber superstar potential with a bright future ahead of him. If he stays healthy and keeps progressing, he could be wowing fans at PNC Park very soon.
