Okay, just one vote. And it was third place. In other words, the absolute minimum. But that still caused Torey to finish equal sixth in the voting on one point, level with Mike Shildt of the Padres. Lovullo last received votes in 2023, when he came fourth on 42 points. He also received mentions in 2019 (6th place, two points) and won the award in 2017, getting 18 first-place votes and a total of 111 points.
The vote came from Jack Magruder, who is part of the Arizona chapter. He is officially “at large”, but has been covering the D-backs for a very long time (I think he goes back to the pre-SnakePit era), so is certainly very familiar with the organization. I must admit to being most amused that Torey got more votes than Dave Roberts. Of course, voting took place at the end of the regular season. The Dodgers were less than impressive, winning five games less than the previous season, on the way to notching their lowest W% since 2018. Guess even writers have had enough of the Dodgers buying their way to success.
