Gibbons had worked under Carlos Mendoza with the New York Mets for the previous two seasons but departed the team at the end of the season.
The 63-year-old has managed a total of 11 seasons with the Blue Jays over two stints. He first took over as manager during the 2004 season and guided the team until 2008, when he was replaced by Cito Gaston.
Gibbons then returned for 2013 and managed the Jays for six more seasons, leading them to the American League Championship Series in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016. He own a 793-789 career record as skipper.
Fletcher also reports the Angels hired former big-league outfielder Adam Eaton as their first base coach to work under Suzuki. Eaton played 10 seasons in the Majors from 2012 to 2021 and spent part of his last season with the Angels.
