The Rangers have been a tough team to figure out since their 2023 World Series championship. The roster hasn’t undergone major changes, for better or worse, and yet they can’t seem to get over that .500 hump again. By 2028, they’ll still have much of their infield intact, but getting some of the young guns in the lineup could pose an interesting problem, especially with a name as big as Sebastian Walcott on his way. The outfield is a little bit more open with Adolis Garcia’s team control ending after 2026, and the rotation will be nearly wide open by 2028 with Nathan Eovaldi, Tyler Mahle, and Merrill Kelly all coming off the books before then. Jacob deGrom does have a club option for $20 million in 2028, and there is a good chance the Rangers pick that up, but for the purposes of this exercise, we can’t assume any players will be brought back, even those with options. The roster a few years from now will have an interesting blend of aging veterans and young talent, and they’ll have to find a way to make all the pieces of the puzzle fit together.
