HANOVER, N.H. – On Monday, November 10, Kyle Hendricks ’13 announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after a 12-year career in The Show.

 

Hendricks spent 11 years with the Chicago Cubs, helping them to a World Series in 2016, their first title in 108 years. His 2.13 ERA that season led the MLB, as he finished third overall in Cy Young voting. He posted a 16-8 overall record in 2016, tossing 190 innings in 31 total games. Hendricks also fanned 170 batters.

 

Hendricks made his first appearance in the World Series in Game 3, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings against the Cleveland Indians. He gave up six hits and fanned six batters. The Cubs ended up losing that game 1-0 as Cleveland took a 2-1 series lead.

 

He also started the winner takes all Game 7 on the road. Hendricks allowed four hits in 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts. The Cubs went on to win 8-7 in the tenth inning, securing their first championship in 108 years.

 

After 11 years in Chicago, Hendricks signed with the Los Angeles Angels for the 2025 season. On June 6, Hendricks allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings, as the Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners, 5-4, earning Hendricks his 100th career win.

 

Hendricks finishes his career with a 105-91 record, 1,745 innings pitched, 1,373 strikeouts and a 3.79 ERA.

 

He was drafted in the eighth round of the 2011 MLB draft to the Texas Rangers before being traded to the Cubs at the 2012 trade deadline. Hendricks played in Chicago’s minor league system in 2013, being named the Cubs’ minor league pitcher of the year. He began the 2014 season with the Iowa Cubs before making his major league debut in July of 2014.

 

Hendricks earned his first career win on July 22, 2014 at Wrigley Field against the San Diego Padres. In 2015, he started the season as a member of the Cubs’ starting rotation.

 

Hendricks played for three seasons at Dartmouth, posting a 15-12 overall record with a 4.87 career ERA. He ranks ninth overall in program history with 174 total strikeouts.
