The San Diego Padres went on the road to face the Toronto Blue Jays after being swept by the Seattle Mariners at Petco Park over the weekend.

The hope from Padres fans was the offensive struggles at home would cease and San Diego would get back to scoring and winning. The Padres did not score and they did not win, falling to the Blue Jays 3-0 at Rogers Centre, Tuesday.

San Diego carried an 0-for-21 with runners in scoring position into Toronto and that streak got worse and moved to 0-for-24 with three more missed opportunities.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt held the Padres scoreless through six innings and scattered four hits. San Diego added just one more hit over the remaining three innings of the game.

Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Gavin Sheets and Jayson Heyward each hit a single. Luis Arraez had the only extra-base hit of the game with a double in the first inning.

That game felt almost exactly like the games against Seattle. Decent pitching, a couple of home runs allowed, and that was all she wrote.

Crazy stat: Padres actually have more hits than the M’s/Jays during this 4-game losing streak.

Dylan Cease pitched well for the Padres and worked into the seventh inning. He allowed a first inning home run to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.

Cease kept the score 1-0 until a questionable ball four call against Alejandro Kirk allowed him to start the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff walk. A struggling Anthony Santander was able to get to an inside pitch and hit a line drive home run to right field to put Toronto up, 3-0.

Cease rebounded from the two home runs and finished seven innings, allowing three runs on three hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

San Diego will attempt to break a four-game losing streak in Toronto against the Blue Jays, Wednesday at 4:07 p.m.
