The 28-year-old athlete is the first pitcher to have won the award after Pedro Martinez won it twice in 1999 and 2000 consecutively. Martinez was playing for the Boston Red Sox.Skubal’s win created an instant wave of pressure for the Tigers. The athlete led the team to a record of 87-75, which is a decent record within the American League. In the wild-card round, the team even got a bit of revenge against the Cleveland Guardians. Despite the impressive performance, however, the next season might be the last season fans will get to see the player donning the Tigers uniform. Skubal is scheduled to enter his free agency era in 2027. This has created a wave of pressure upon the tigers. There have been requests made towards the team to retain the player. However, the $300 million difference in the extension agreement between the Tigers and Skubal might be a major reason for the team not landing with the athlete. The last season was Skubal’s 5th year with the Tigers. Throughout his career with the team, Skubal racked up a 54-37 record in 137 appearances.
