The Toronto Blue Jays are among the list of expected suitors for right-handed reliever Pete Fairbanks, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The Tampa Bay Rays declined Fairbanks’ $11 million option earlier this off-season, making him a free agent.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are also expected to be interested, writes Rosenthal.
Fairbanks, 31, has spent the last seven seasons with the Rays and has been consistent the last several seasons. This past year was no different as Fairbanks turned in a 2.83 ERA with 27 saves and 59 strikeouts in 60.1 innings pitched, finishing 48 of Tampa Bay’s 77 wins.
Rosenthal notes that the Rays attempted to move Fairbanks at the trade deadline but did not receive their desired return and declined his option after finding few teams willing to take on $11 million for a reliever so early in the off-season.
Multiple reports indicate the Blue Jays are looking for relief help this winter, among other pieces.
Fairbanks owns a 3.19 career ERA with 90 saves in 275 big-league appearances.
