The Pittsburgh Pirates ace is the first pitcher to win Rookie of the Year in their debut season and then Cy Young the next since Dwight Gooden with the New York Mets in 1984 and 1985.

Skenes was picked with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, pitching to a 1.96 ERA in his rookie season.

This past year, he posted a 1.97 ERA in 32 starts, striking out 216 batters.

That effort saw Skenes named a finalist for the Cy Young award, which he was announced as the unanimous winner on Wednesday night.

Dunne was thrilled with Skenes’ victory, and shared it on her Instagram with an enthusiastic caption.

“OH MY GOODNESSSSS!!!!” she wrote.

Dunne also shared pictures of a cake and Skenes with champagne during their celebrations.

Skenes will now look to take home an MVP award in the future to complete his trophy shelf

The only other thing Skenes has yet to do is make the playoffs with the Pirates.

Pittsburgh has seen no success even with the best pitcher in baseball on their team.

In his career, the Pirates have played to a 147-77 record, finishing in last place in the National League central both years.
