CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Guardians for the second time this week have raided Seattle’s brain trust to fill an opening on manager Stephen Vogt’s coach staff.

They have hired Seattle bullpen coach Tony Arnerich as bench coach to replace Craig Albernaz, who was recently hired as manager of the Baltimore Orioles.

On Tuesday, they hired Seattle assistant GM Andy McKay as their new field coordinator. The opening was created when Kai Correa left to be the bench coach for the Mets.

Arnerich has been the Mariners’ bullpen coach for the last two years, replacing Vogt when he was hired as Cleveland’s manager after the 2023 season. Before that, he was the Mariners hitting coach for two years.

The former minor league catcher joined the Mariners in 2017 as the assistant hitting coordinator and catching coordinator in the minors. He served as minor league field coordinator from 2020 through 2021.

Arnerich, 45, joined the big-league staff as hitting coach in 2022 before moving to the bullpen coach in 2023.

He caught four years in the minors with Kansas City and Florida. He played in college at Santa Rose Jr. College and Texas Tech.

After his playing career, Arnerich was an assistant coach at Cal State Berkley from 2007 to 2014. He also managed in the Northwoods League, a college wood bat league, for several years.
