TOKYO — While Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander from Japan, on Wednesday missed out on winning the Cy Young Award, which goes to the best starting pitchers in the U.S. major leagues, he is nevertheless another example of a player from Japan excelling on the other side of the Pacific.
