The Mets announced yesterday that McKinney had officially been released by their Triple-A affiliate team in Syracuse which now makes him a free agent once again after signing a minor league deal with New York this off-season.

Mets Cut Ties with Once-Rising Star Billy McKinney in Shocking Minor League Move

This move does not come as aa huge surprise since McKinney had been struggling to start the season in Triple-A with a .184 batting average along with 33 homeruns and 9 RBIs in 33 games so far this season.

The best season of McKinney’s career actually came with the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2019 when he hit 12 homeruns and 28 RBIs in 84 games that season but would never come close to those numbers ever again unfortunately.

Now at 31 years old, the chances are slim that McKinney lands back in the MLB although he might be able to find himself another minor league, if not he will likely be headed to play over seas.

Quite the fall from grace for the former Oakland Athletics 1st round pick from 2013.
