The Toronto Blue Jays ended their season with major heartbreak after the Los Angeles Dodgers took home the World Series title in seven games.

This offseason, the Blue Jays could be headed for more heartbreak, as franchise superstar Bo Bichette is a free agent. Bichette is projected to sign a $189 million deal this winter, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, and he could bolt from Toronto for a contract with a new team.

Sports Illustrated’s Nick Selbe and Will Laws recently predicted Bichette would ditch the Blue Jays and sign a deal with the Detroit Tigers this winter.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette

“Bichette re-established his value after a disastrous 2024 season in which injuries cost him 81 games and most of his productivity,” Selbe and Laws wrote. “Before this year’s playoffs, he had never played any position other than shortstop at the major league level, but perhaps it’s time for a permanent move to second base after years of ranking near the bottom in most defensive metrics at shortstop. Bichette’s contact-heavy approach should enable him to age gracefully, and the fact that he’s hitting the open market on the right side of 30 should ensure a big payday.”

The Tigers are the perfect fit for Bichette if they can lure him away from the Blue Jays.

Toronto should be considered the favorite for Bichette right now, but money talks, and the Tigers could be willing to spend it to make a final effort to win with Tarik Skubal on the roster. Don’t count out the Tigers in Bichette’s free agency sweepstakes.
