Tennessee Director of Baseball Performance Quentin Eberhardt is leaving the Volunteer program to be the new Director of Performance for the San Fransisco Giants, GoVols247’s Ben McKee and KNS Mike Wilson first reported on Friday afternoon and multiple source confirmed to RTI.

Eberhardt was integral to the success of Tennessee’s baseball program over the eight years. Tony Vitello hired him on his inaugural staff at Tennessee back in 2017 effectively as the strength and conditioning coach. Eberhardt served in the position from 2017-22 before taking the head strength and conditioning job with the Chicago Cubs.

He spent just over six months with the Cubs before returning to Tennessee following the conclusion of the 2022 season. Eberhardt is particularly close to former Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello. Combine Vitello and Eberhardt’s close relationship with Eberhardt’s, albeit brief, experience in professional baseball and he was the most obvious candidate to follow Vitello to professional baseball.

Eberhardt was widely viewed as one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in college baseball. Tennessee’s development has been a big part of its success and program growth. Eberhardt and his strength program is a major part of that development.

New Tennessee head coach Josh Elander quickly made a move to replace Eberhardt, hiring Keegan Knoll as the program’s new strength and conditioning coach. Knoll spent the 2025 season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Prior to his time with the Brewers, Knoll spent seven seasons in various roles in the Chicago Cubs organization. Knoll is a graduate of the University of Illinois.

It’s the second major hire that Elander has made as Tennessee’s head coach. Elander previously hired Florida assistant Chuck Jeroloman as the Vols’ new associate head coach. Jeroloman was the associate head coach and acting head coach for the Gators during head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s current leave of absence.

The Vols wrapped up their fall practice last weekend and now turns their attention to fully altering and ironing out staff responsibilities over the next two months before preseason practice begins in January.
